Case Study: Sweeper for John Deere 1550 Out front Mower

The Problem :

 Clearing Moss, snow and mud on a long drive and lane, removing detritus improving safety and visual appeal. 

The motive power unit for the property is a John Deere 1550 outfront mower, most of the time this power unit is idle and underutilised.

Solution :

The customer's JD outfront mower can be easily fitted with a Kersten 1.50m KM 15045 pto driven sweeper. 

When the sweeper is required, just remove the cutter unit and refit the sweeper, the only connection iare the two arms and the pto shaft, no hydraulics, really simple.

Result :

After attaching and before you start sweeping set the unit as follows:

1 Adjust the height wheels to allow around 50mm to 60mm brush contact with the surface, (for optimum sweeping and debris removal). If a much greater impact allows the bristles to bend excessively the brush will work less well and quickly wear.

2 Adjust sweeper the unit left or right so the debris is moved to one side, this is achieved by moving the pin in the adjusting arm, from straight to slight angle to greater angle as required.

Lift the sweeper on the lift arms transport to where you wish to sweep, lower slowly, engage the PTO and go forward traveling as slow as necessary to achieve the best result By only using mid engine RPM the brush will last longer and be more economical to operate on machine and fuel.

By sweeping regularly moss and overburden will not build up, keeping the surface clean and free from moss and weeds. This takes away many potential hazards such as slipping, punctures on equipment and cycles and an often overlooked problem, long term deterioration due to freeze thaw gradually damaging the surface.
